Well, I know the author but that does not disqualify me as a reviewer. This book is a lot of fun, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat, even when the book heels a bit. It helps, of course, to know a bit about sailing--but I slogged my way through O'Brian's Aubrey books not understanding half the lingo. What counts, both in love and in sailing, I suppose, is the overall experience, the minor technical details--whether a joy or misery--are to be overlooked. And if your imagination tends in either of those directions, you will be made happy.Thirty odd years ago I began editing work by proofing bodice-rippers. Now that was pulp fiction. Despite the largely ironic title, this is a good book, a good novel, and a good read.

Although the main story line is predictable. There other aspects, or side stories, that make this an interesting read. Enjoyed Robert Lush's writing style, as he takes you on a romantic journey. If you like travelling, the places described are real, and you can visit them yourself if so inclined.
