Book Review: Zoe Carter: Prevailed on to Marry: 3-stars
This felt like a movie on fast forward. It was less than 100 pages and could be read fairly quickly. We start at Rosings and move right along to the almost proposal which was prevented when Elizabeth remained upstairs with her headache. The servant turns Darcy away.

Later, Darcy is able to hear what Elizabeth really thinks about him…boy is he glad he didn’t propose as he had intended. He is convinced she would have refused him as she hates him and has a checklist of his faults. His goal is to now go about checking those faults off her list.

The first thing he has to do is tell Bingley about his interfering and direct him where Jane is staying in London. Next Darcy asked Elizabeth to forgive him, but she refuses. Later, when she received the letter from Jane announcing her engagement to Bingley, Elizabeth knew Darcy had brought it about and was embarrassed that she hadn’t forgiven him when she had the chance.

But, then she reasons his treatment of Wickham was enough to still blame him. On a visit to the old Darcy family nurse, she sets Elizabeth straight regarding Wickham and his evil ways. Elizabeth now feels really bad regarding her treatment of Darcy who she finds out is a good man and worthy of her love. LO... I bounced back and forth like a ping pong ball and had a headache myself by the time I reached the end.

I wanted to like the characters, but they were so one dimensional that they were hardly recognizable. Even Colonel Fitzwilliam was a shadow of himself. Read the reviews, there are several out there that will give an outline of the story. No need for me to repeat. There were also editing problems.

Prevailed On To Marry A Pride and Prejudice Alternative Story edition by Zoe Carter Romance eBooks Reviews

I realize that this is an alternative story but the write felt contrived and stressed. Every time I thought that it couldn't get more unAusten like it did. In one minute the story infers something and than later the story acts like it never inferred it and weaves it into a story line. Arrrg! Just couldn't bear it any more. Got to 74% and I just gave up. So I just can't, in my right mind recommend this book. Sorry, wish I could. I love JAFF writers and I think that maybe this writer needed to go back and edit and review better.
This novella has an interesting premise, with both Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth accidentally eavesdropping and learning exactly what the other thinks of them while they're in Kent. This spurs Darcy to write to Bingley and correct his interference, but Elizabeth still resists softening her feelings toward Darcy because of his supposed injury to Wickham.

While there are no grammar or spelling errors, the writing has a simplicity of style that seems more geared to a young reader than an adult. The author also over-explains in a lot of places rather than allowing words or actions to convey the characters' thoughts and emotions.

Overall, this is a pleasant, quick read.
Delightful new character helps bring Darcy and Elizabeth together while they are in Kent. Darcy's old nurse, Mrs. Roberts, also helped with Anne de Bourgh. Elizabeth becomes friends with her while she helps Charlotte with the parishioners. Elizabeth visits her and because Mrs. Roberts is hard of hearing, Darcy overhears Elizabeth's conversation. When Elizabeth leaves, Darcy delivers the flowers he cut for Mrs. Roberts. Elizabeth returns to deliver a cake from the baker, Mr. Harris, who has a thing for Mrs. Roberts, and hears Mr. Darcy and speaking about what he's done interfering with Bingley and Jane, Darcy knows he must correct this if he is to earn Elizabeth's love. She also hears how much he loves her. His treatment of Wickham still has her angry, but Mrs. Roberts explains why Darcy hates Wickham. Elizabeth is ashamed of herself and wants to apologize for hurting him and to accept the apology he offered, but she refused. She cannot, because he has left for London. Arriving at the Gardiners, Elizabeth is surprised by the Darcys visit to Gracechurch Street. The introduction to her aunt and uncle is pleasant and Elizabeth is impressed with Darcy's acceptance. Georgiana invites them to dinner the following evening. Elizabeth realizes that she loves Darcy, and when he proposes, she accepts. He follows Elizabeth to Longbourn to ask Mr. Bennet for her hand in marriage. Permission and blessings are granted and the two lovers are wed by special license. Georgiana got the sister she wanted and Darcy got the wife he desired. Not much about Caroline in this story which is a good thing, and Lady Catherine was not invited to the wedding. Loved Mrs. Roberts and the part she played bringing our obstinate couple together.
This is a short story but rather well done and the romance seems real and in character. You will like both Darcy and Elizabeth. Don't miss this fine take on this wonderful couple.
This was a sweet story, though I found it a little lackluster in some parts. There were a few typos and grammatical errors but nothing too distracting. I enjoyed reading it.
This is a cute quickie retelling with a quicker result. It starts at Hunsford where Elizabeth and Maria are visiting the Collines, and Mr Darcy and Col Fitzwilliam are visiting Lady Catherine and Anne. Col Fitzwilliam is speaking eloquently about Elizabeth to Mr Darcy, which as you can imagine was tipping Mr Darcy's sanity over the scale. At his point, Mr Darcy still was pretty arrogant in his thinking and felt very superior in his station in life. But Col Fitzwilliam's words, though rattling, struck a cord.

Through divine intervention, "THE" proposal did not happen. But in the following days, and with the unintentional assistance of a well-meaning older woman in the village, our stubborn couple receive vital information!! Through this overheard conversations lady, Darcy's ego was brought down a notch and Elizabeth was disabused of her misinformation!!! This information thus removing all the impediments holding them in check.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading and believe that all my fellow JAFFers will enjoying it as well. It was well written and thought out, clever to use overheard conversations with a third person!!!
